Carbon fiber of carbon fiber cloth,alternatively graphite fiber,is a material consisting of extremely thin fibers about 0.005-0.010mm in diameter.It is composed mostly of carbon atoms.The carbon atoms of carbon fiber cloth are bonded together in microscopic crystals that are more or less aligned parallel to the long axis of the fiber.The crystal alignment makes the carbon fiber of carbon fiber cloth very strong for its size.Several thousand carbon fibers are twisted to form a yarn which is used in the making of carbon fiber cloth.The properties of carbon fiber of carbon fiber cloth are such as high tensile strength,low weight and low thermal expansion that make carbon fiber cloth very common in aerospace,military,civil engineering and motorsports.However carbon fiber cloth is relatively expensive when compared to similar materials such as fiberglass or plastic.

Carbon fiber cloth is composed of carbon fibers.Precursors for carbon fibers are PAN,rayon and pitch.Some commonly used types are plain,twill and satin.

Carbon fiber cloth is woven by carbon fiber yarn,and the carbon fiber yarn made from carbonized acrylic yarn or PAN yarn.It can be used as fireproof cloth like as against for welding fire in shipbuilding line,the carbon fiber cloth have long using time and very safe to human skin,can replace other fiber cloth,including glass fiber cloth,ceramic fiber cloth and asbestos fiber cloth.

Another type of cloth used widely is Kevlar cloth.Kevlar cloth is a high tensile strength and high modulus composite fabric good for kayaks and racing shells where maximum strength and minimal weight are criticalA few reasons that are in favour of kevlar are highly flame resistant,thermal properties can handle temperature to 320 degreesF for extended period with ease.Kevlar cloth is sent in large rolls to the bulletproof vest.A bullet proof vest consists of a panel,a vest-shaped sheet of advanced plastic polymers that is composed of many layers of either Kevlar or bynema or spectra.The panel provides protection.

Kevlar filaments of Kevlar cloth are made by extruding the precursor through a spinneret.There are three grades of Kevlar-kevlar29,kevlar49 and kevlar149.Kevlar has advantages besides strength and weight.Kevlar is very resistant to impact and abrasion damage.It can be used as a protective layer on graphite laminates.The disadvantage is that they are sensitive to environment and absorb moisture.
